Get Rid of Iron Ochre with Fissure ML Inc. in Laval, in Saint-Eustache and on the North Shore
What is Iron Ochre?
Iron ochre is a reddish mud caused by bacteria in the soil that feed on iron. This viscous substance gradually clogs French drains at the base of a foundation. This often occurs when a foundations is immersed in the groundwater table. As a result, the basement becomes very damp and water seepage can occur.
Call Fissure ML for effective treatments against iron ochre.
Protect the Value of Your Home; Beware of Water infiltration in Your Basement! The team at Fissure ML inc. wants to demystify the phenomenon of iron hydroxide, or ferrous soil which can block and obstruct your French drain.
There are several factors to consider:
Firstly, check if your water catchment basin with a submersible pump contains a rust-coloured substance.
Secondly, pay special attention to your drain if you live in an area where the soil is sandy, for example Pointe-Calumet, Deux-Montagnes, Laval-Ouest, Fabreville, Lorraine, Terrebonne, Saint-Eustache, Blainville, etc.
Some bacteria create gelatinous rust-coloured ferrous ochre that can easily be removed mechanically. This ochre is made of filaments. It sticks to the inside surfaces of the drain and to the geotextile that coats the drain. These bacteria are responsible of the decreased drainage and flow of the French drain.
You must know that some excavation and renovation entrepreneurs, with no real experience in the foundations, have the tendency to completely replace the French drain, without previously having done a proper inspection with a camera. This is often not the right thing to do, because even if you replace the drain, the iron hydroxide will eventually obstruct it again.
However, for homes that are more than 10, 20 or 30 years, a complete drain change may be the only solution. To know if it is the right way to proceed, you have to hire professionals to conduct a camera inspection and issue a detailed report. For this kind of work, trust the experienced team at Fissure ML inc.!
After the camera inspection and after partially or completely replacing the drain, Fissure ML inc. can install 2 to 4 access water wells which will be permanently linked to the drain, so that the owner can conduct yearly maintenance according to the suggested method. The owner must know that it has to be kept in good condition, and you will have to professionally clean it every 1 or 2 years.
